Make sure everything is clean. Clean anything that isn&#8217;t clean. In case you haven&#8217;t noticed, you want to be clean when you are assembling an engine.<br \/>\nSo, first step, clean. Second step, lube.<br \/>\nI start with a glob of moly assembly lube, then spread it out. I try not to get any in the oil groove.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ilostmymind.com\/wordp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/wpid-wp-14166959196391.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"wp-1416695919639\" class=\"alignnone size-full\"  alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/ilostmymind.com\/wordp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/wpid-wp-14166959196391.jpeg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ilostmymind.com\/wordp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/wpid-wp-14166960157511.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"wp-1416696015751\" class=\"alignnone size-full\"  alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/ilostmymind.com\/wordp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/wpid-wp-14166960157511.jpeg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Also, get the side of the thrust bearing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ilostmymind.com\/wordp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/wpid-wp-14166960415521.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"wp-1416696041552\" class=\"alignnone size-full\"  alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/ilostmymind.com\/wordp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/wpid-wp-14166960415521.jpeg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Once the bearings are lubed and installed in the block and caps, install the crankshaft.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ilostmymind.com\/wordp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/wpid-wp-14166960890261.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"wp-1416696089026\" class=\"alignnone size-full\"  alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/ilostmymind.com\/wordp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/wpid-wp-14166960890261.jpeg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Then I&#8217;ll install the bearing caps.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ilostmymind.com\/wordp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/wpid-wp-14166961468943.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"wp-1416696146894\" class=\"alignnone size-full\"  alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/ilostmymind.com\/wordp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/wpid-wp-14166961468942.jpeg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I prefer to use arp ultra torque. Even if I&#8217;m not using arp fasteners. You could use oil, or assembly lube.<br \/>\nI cheat a little and pretorque the bolts with my ryobi. I think it only goes up to 20, but I dial it back to 16 or so.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ilostmymind.com\/wordp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/wpid-wp-14166965905443.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"wp-1416696590544\" class=\"alignnone size-full\"  alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/ilostmymind.com\/wordp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/wpid-wp-14166965905442.jpeg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Then, torque them to spec. I&#8217;m going to use the same setting I used when I plastigauged the crank, 60 ft\/lbs.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ilostmymind.com\/wordp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/wpid-wp-14166963560191.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"wp-1416696356019\" class=\"alignnone size-full\"  alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/ilostmymind.com\/wordp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/wpid-wp-1416696356019.jpeg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Once the crank is bolted in, I&#8217;ll flip the block over, or on its side, to start installing the pistons.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ilostmymind.com\/wordp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/wpid-wp-14166967468831.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"wp-1416696746883\" class=\"alignnone size-full\"  alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/ilostmymind.com\/wordp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/wpid-wp-1416696746883.jpeg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Proper ring placement is important.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ilostmymind.com\/wordp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/wpid-wp-14166968283631.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"wp-1416696828363\" class=\"alignnone size-full\"  alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/ilostmymind.com\/wordp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/wpid-wp-1416696828363.jpeg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In order not to scratch the newly ground crankshaft, I&#8217;m using pieces of silicone hose. They also help give an indication of how far, or how straight the piston is.<br \/>\nWhen I apply assembly lube to the big end caps, I try not to pack it in the hole.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ilostmymind.com\/wordp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/wpid-wp-14166973004511.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"wp-1416697300451\" class=\"alignnone size-full\"  alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/ilostmymind.com\/wordp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/wpid-wp-1416697300451.jpeg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I apply the ultra torque to the rod bolts, and nut base like so. Also torque to the same spec as plastigauged.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ilostmymind.com\/wordp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/wpid-wp-14166971329281.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"wp-1416697132928\" class=\"alignnone size-full\"  alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/ilostmymind.com\/wordp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/wpid-wp-1416697132928.jpeg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Then you should be able to rotate the assembly with a bit of effort.
